Macarons have marched across the city

Oh happy day!  There's now a macaron shop within walking distance of my home!

Light and crunchy, macarons are the sort of treat that you can almost have without a guilty conscience.  That's if you stop at one.

Marche du Macaron have a mouth watering array of macaron flavours.  I defy you to resist their salted caramel, peanut butter, banoffee and red velvet flavours.

Perfected by Trish Hollamby, these treats have been on tap at their Gordon Park store for around two years.  Now Ashgrove residents can make their way to Fraser Road, just off Wardell Street, and find their own patch of French pastry heaven.

There are many macarons around town but these are some of the best.  Trish really has nailed the baking process and turns out a lovely crisp shell filled with a soft, sweet ganache.

It's not all macarons and you'll see plenty of other tempting treats on the shelves.  Think rocky road, coconut ice, caramel slice, muffins and more.  My eyes were stuck on the packets of musk sticks, but I want pink Trish, not green!

Savoury too!

For your savoury side there are croissants filled with ham and mini quiches.

You'll also see jars of home made jams on the counter.

Seating is plentiful outside the shop under a covered verandah.  It's a dog friendly space as well.  Parking is off street and right out front which makes everything very accessible.

The store opened on Thursday and, at this stage, opening times are 6.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, Saturday 7am to 2 pm and Sunday 8am to 2pm.

Ed+bK rating: 4/5 stars.  This family run business is a great destination for breakfast through to early afternoon.

Bottom line: Expect to pay $4 for a small coffee.  If you like it strong, ask for an extra shot.

Disclaimer: Ed+bK paid for her lunch.
